WBCS Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Eligibility 2023 RAYACADEMY

West Bengal Public Service Commission ( WBPSC) is the Body that is responsible for conducting the WBCS Exam. WBPSC has officially released the Syllabus and Exam Pattern for WBCS 2023 Session on 25th February 2023. WBCS Exam is conducted in three(03) stages namely Preliminary, Mains and Interview. In this Article, Candidates will understand the WBCS syllabus and the Exam pattern of both Prelims and Mains.

  1. The WBCS Prelims consists of one (01) paper only i.e., General Studies. There is no Aptitude Test, Unlike various other State Public Commission Exams.

  2. The WBCS Mains Exam has Six (06) compulsory papers and one Optional Subject consisting of two(02) papers.

  3. Optional Subjects are meant to be taken by candidates opting for Group-A and Group-B Services.

  4. Out of Six(06) compulsory papers, Four (04) papers are of MCQs types-

    1. Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali

    2. English

    3. General Studies-I

    4. General Studies-II

    5. The Constitution of India and Indian Economy including role and function of Reserve Bank of India.

    6. Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning

  5. The Mains Exam ( Conventional/Essay) is allowed to be taken only in Bengali/English Language.

  6. There is a deduction of 10% of the total marks secured by the candidate, if He/ She discloses his/her identify by writing his/her roll number/ name.


Eligibility Criteria


Qualification:

  • A degree of a Recognized University.

  • Ability to Read, Write and Speak in Bengali ( Not required for those candidates whose Mother tongue is Nepali)

  • The candidate must have good health and character and suitability in all respects for appointment to Government service.

Age Limitation:

Minimum Age Limit:

  • Group A & C- 21 Years

  • Group B - 20 Years ( For West Bengal Police Services Only)

  • Group D - 21 Years

Maximum Age Limit

  • Group A & C - 36 Years ( As on January 1 of the year of the Examination)

  • Group B - 36 Years ( As on January 1 of the year of the Examination)

  • Group D - 39 Years ( As on January 1 of the year of the Examination)

Those Candidates whose Date of Birth lies between the 1st January 2000 and the 1st January 2001 [ i.e. whose age is between 20 and 21 years as on 01.01.2002] may apply for the Group B only

Age as recorded only in Madhyamik or equivalent certificate, will be accepted.

The age limit apply to all the candidates whether in Government service or not.

Age Relaxation:

As per the Notification-

  • The upper age limit is relaxable for S.C. and S.T. is About 5 years,

  • The age relaxation for O.B.C. is about 3 years, and

  • In case of Persons with Disabilities (PWD), the upper age is relaxable up to 45 years.

Candidates appearing for the WBCS Exam must go through the Syllabus and Exam Pattern in details before starting their Preparation.
